Make Movies in Hong Kong … & earn NMSU credit!
Instruction: July 7 – August 8, 2008
(student accommodation available July 4 – August 11) 5 weeks intensive, 9 credits.
Join us for an exciting, integrated, and practice-based study abroad program and a dynamic introduction to Hong Kong, its film industry, and the emerging Pearl River Delta megalopolis of south China.
The program will include:
• Seminars and presentations on the Hong Kong film industry & the relationships between cinema and urban space
• Technical and procedural training in documentary filmmaking
• A collaborative filmmaking experience
• Field trips, excursions, and urban research around Hong Kong and the region.
Hong Kong has long been an exciting center for film, not to mention architecture and the fine arts, urban planning, television, animation, game development, and interactive media. The film industry is an established leader in several popular genres, produces hit films for markets across Asia and around the world, and regularly lends talent and ideas to Hollywood. The region’s buildings, public transportation solutions, and infrastructure projects are globally influential, and Hong Kong remains one of the world’s key ports and financial centers.
