New Mexico State University, one of the nation’s top land grant universities, seeks a Director for its newly established and highly regarded Creative Media Institute (CMI) for Film & Digital Arts. CMI is dedicated to storytelling as a foundation for training and nurturing a new generation of film, animation and visual effects artists, developing new voices and new forms in an environment of encouragement and high expectations. The Director is responsible for carrying forward all aspects of the academic trajectory, furthering the developing design of CMI to be both academic program and film/animation/visual effects studio.

The Director must hold a terminal degree (MFA or Ph.D.), with an accomplished record and reputation in teaching and creative work in the film and/or animation & visual effects industry. The candidate needs to have a body of scholarly and/or artistic work that will make him/her eligible for appointment as an Associate or Full Professor. The Director must be able to use a digital media production workflow to facilitate innovation in teaching, learning and creative expressions.

Responsibilities: a 12-month appointment, provide leadership and vision in implementing and developing leading edge curriculum that has a competitive advantage over similar programs at other institutions and that meets and/or exceeds industry expectation, mentor a diverse faculty and staff, oversee student matriculation and day-to-day operations, oversee course schedules, complete annual reports and budget, and teach courses in his/her field. The position deals directly with the college and university administration and takes the lead on collaboration with other university departments and programs, as well as other programs throughout the state.
